(T-12697) Tradition and Community in German Karl May Festivals
Dissertation
My dissertation carries out a comprehensive analysis of Karl May festivals by focusing historically on their medialized and performed representations of Native Americans, and on their hybrid structural features. Six contemporary ethnographic case studies complement the historical and formal contextualization of these events by exploring how they act as playful embodiments of cultural transfer, and generate recurrent and localized communities with own traditions.
